The mountain Kings

There were 22 kings that lived in the mountain regions. They all started to worry that Guru Gobind Singh Ji is getting very powerful. He has his own army, his own flag, and now he is giving the poor people courage.

The mountain kings decided to attack Guru Gobind Singh Ji. However, they were also afraid of the Guru because they had lost to him in the battle of Bhangani. One day they found an opportunity to attack the Guru who was out riding his horse. He only had a few Sikhs with him. Two of the kings, Balia Chand and Alim Chand took their armies and ambushed the Sikhs. Guru Gobind Singh Ji was not with the Sikhs when this happened, because he was riding a little ahead of them.

One of the Sikhs ran and informed the Guru what happened. Guru Gobind Singh Ji quickly went to the scene of the battle and shouted, “Akal, Akal, Sat Sri Akal!”

When the Sikhs heard the Guru, it inspired them with fresh courage and they rallied back against the enemy. Raja Balia Chand saw that the momentum had swung, so he entered the battle field. Bhai Uhde Singh, one of the Guru’s brave Sikhs took aim and shot Raja Balia Chand who fell to his death.

The other king, Alim Chand had his right arm cut off by Bhai Alim Singh. The enemy soldiers saw that one of their leaders was lying dead and the other had lost an arm, so they started to retreat.
