Childhood
Guru
Arjun Saheb’s parkash (birth) took place on April 15, 1563 in the
village of Goindwal. His mother Bibi Bhani Ji was the younger daughter of
Guru Amardas Ji and his father was Guru Ram Das Ji.
From
an early age he got to gain wisdom from third and fourth masters and other
great gursikhs. At a young age he was given a boon by Guru Amar das Ji
that he would be a great leader.
When
Guru Arjun Saheb was only four or five years old, he was searching for his
ball and went into Guru Amar Das Ji’s room. The Guru was sleeping on the
bed when Guru Arjun started to search under the bed for his ball. While
searching, he lifted one end of the bed up and Guru Amar Das Ji woke up.
When Bibi Bhani Ji came in to grab her son, the Guru said, “This son has
lifted my bed, but later he will carry this world with him.
Guru
Arjun Saheb learned to read Gurmukhi from Guru Amar Das Ji. His uncle
Mohri Ji taught him math and he learned Sanskrit from Pandit Beni Ji.
While
Guru Arjun Saheb was very spiritual, he was also a great horseman and
archer.
